In October 2010, RNP staff developed a report on solar PV variability and grid integration.

From the report summary:
 
"As costs for solar photovoltaic (PV) generation continue to fall and more utility-scale generating facilities are being developed, utilities are beginning to consider the effects of solar energy variability and uncertainty on the power grid. This report summarizes available data sources and papers describing efforts to quantify solar variability and uncertainty in order to help direct power system analysts interested in conducting solar integration analyses."
